Painted Mason Jars

For my friend’s bridal shower I decided to paint a few mason jars.  I knew she was considering using mason jars for her wedding centerpieces so I figured this would be a fun project and a great way to stick with the theme.  My husband and I went to a farm auction and I had made a comment about my friend wanting to use mason jars.  Well, I had walked away-probably to go warm up somewhere-and the jars started going to bid.  By time I had realized this, my husband had already secured almost 200 jars.  They were a mix of Ball and other brands of mason jars, as well as some plain small ones.  All very useful and perfect for the project. I ended up painting just six for the bridal shower because I knew that would be enough for the guest tables.

I ended up doing three gray and three teal, but I wasn't quite done when I took this picture.

I used “Sea Glass” spray paint that I already had and mixed up my own chalk paint for the gray jars.  I mixed gray paint in eggshell finish, baking soda, and water.  It worked pretty well.  Then I used various things- a fine sanding block, a nail file, and my own nail to distress the jars.  To finish off the jars I sprayed a clear matte enamel finish over them.  I was unsure what I was going to put in the jars until I remembered I had a bunch of artificial white dahlias left over from my wedding!

Should have gotten a close up, but here are the jars in all their glory at the bridal shower!
