Lemongrass & Peppermint Balm

I left the word “lip” out of the name on purpose.  I myself have never been a big fan of sticking my finger in a little dish and rubbing it on my lips–oh the germs!  But I really wanted to make cute little tins of balm so I could place personalized labels on them.  That’s really what life is about, right–cuteness and personalization?  So anyways, I also didn’t want people to feel obligated to rub this on their lips, just because the name said they should.  Lemongrass has natural medicinal properties, and peppermint is such an energizing scent and can help with breathing and soreness, so really the balm can be used anywhere on the skin.  The most exciting part of this DIY was that I used beeswax from our very own honeybees!

3 tbsp coconut oil

3 tbsp beeswax (I didn’t really measure this because I had thin pieces of hardened wax that I just broke off and threw in, but if I had to guess…)

1 tbsp shea butter

2 tbsp almond oil

40 drops peppermint essential oil

20 drops lemongrass essential oil

  1.  Melt the coconut oil, beeswax, shea butter and almond oil.  I did this by creating a homemade double boiler using a small sauce pan and a Pampered Chef glass measuring cup.  I put a small amount of water in the sauce pan, and once it was boiling I combined everything in the glass measuring cup and held it right above the water until it all melted.
  2. Add essential oil and pour into tins right away.  I used 1/2 ounce metal tins I got from Amazon.

It is that easy!!  I have been using my balm every day!

I was only use this balm on my lips. But when I got sick I started using it on my nose and it’s preventing me from rubbing my nose raw during this cold I have!
